After completing my BA honours degree in Psychology and Sociology at Leeds University, I commenced work with Doncaster Borough Council as a Day Centre Officer, working with adults with a learning disability in Thorne, near Doncaster. I worked there for five years thoroughly enjoying the challenges and rewards of this occupation. Following the birth of our first son, my husband and I set up The Goddards Extended Family Care Home, for adults with a Learning Disability. The Goddards was then a derelict, Grade 2 Country manner set in four acres of overgrown grounds, on the outskirts of Snaith. The two years renovation was the easy part! We have now been trading for seventeen years and I remain a very ‘hands on’ working Registered Manager, dedicated to supporting and enriching the lives of our ‘extended family’
